A Mess

by Eden Wallace

The child’s hands,

covered in glitter and glue,

resembled an erupting rainbow.

He was delighted, however,

and sobbed his heartbreak

when his mother,

correct, precise,

and unable to delight

in any rainbows whatsoever,

marched him to the sink.

Order must be restored.

All rainbows must be washed away.
